Sylvia Jane Copley, 80, of Burlington, died at 3:00 AM Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born February 2, 1933, in Iowa City, IA, she was the daughter of Chrisjhon and Barbara Claire Talmadge Weinreich. On June 14, 1953, she married Henry Eugene Copley in Burlington.
Sylvia had worked in private home health care and as a nurses aide.
She was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School and also attended Burlington Junior College.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was choir director, and served on the church council. She had played the organ for Asbury United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Bel Canto Chorale, Silver Singers, and served on the school board.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; one son, Jeffrey L. (Kim) Copley of Auburn, NE; three daughters, Barbara J. Copley, Jennifer A. (Steve) Hexom, and Mary L. (Dan) Ashby, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Tony L. Weinreich of New London; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Thomas Lowery.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.
There will be no visitation.
The memorial service for Mrs. Copley will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 24, 2013, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Ryan Cosgrove officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Municipal Band Foundation, and a Trinity Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund.
